Introduction: The organising committee for The Asia-Pacific STS Network Conference 2009 is pleased to invite submission of abstracts for presentation at the 2009 Conference.

How To Apply:
Please complete the abstract submission form. Email confirmation of receipt will be sent. Selection criteria is based on the abstract contributing to and being relevant to a theme (or combination of themes) of the conference. Abstracts will be reviewed by the organising committee, and notification of your submission results will be staggered as they are received, culminating with a final period of notification ending on Monday 5 October 2009. Further information regarding registration and presentation requirements will be provided followed acceptance of a abstract. Publication of papers: instead of conference proceedings, the organisers after identifying themes, abstracts and potential co-editors from the conference abstracts will post calls for papers after the conference for invitation of papers for special issues of peer reviewed international journals such as Science, Technology, and Human Values; East Asian STS International Journal; New Genetics and Society; Science as Culture; Global Environmental Change; and so forth. Indigenous travel bursaries: To be eligible, you need to submit your abstract by the 15 September 2009 and apply for support as indicated on the online abstract submission form.
Venue:
The venue for the conference is the Brisbane Convention Centre and the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, at South Bank, the cultural precinct of Brisbane, situated just across the river from the city centre. The South Bank area houses the state’s cultural institutions and features gardens and lawns situated on the river. The Streets Beach, a popular inner-city swimming area and Little Stanley Street, a cosmopolitan strip of cafes, restaurants, bars and boutique retail outlets are just some of the attractions of South Bank. The area is well known for its relaxed atmosphere and offers delegates the opportunity to swim, walk, ride, eat or see a show after a day of conference activities.
