NAGPUR – TECHNICAL FESTIVAL OF VNIT 2010

AXIS’10: The Technical Festival Of VNIT, Nagpur 2010

Introduction:
VNIT, one of the premier institutes for engineering in India, undoubtedly bags the cream of intellectual talent from the region. In 2001, with a common motivation to showcase technical alacrity and the dire need for new ideas, AXIS, the technical festival of VNIT, was born. Originally christened Odyssey, the technical festival was soon renamed AXIS, to represent a much more active crusade against the lack of novelty and original thought applied to established technological norms, which threatens to impede any future human advancement. Since its inception in 2001, AXIS has never looked back. In the past seven years, AXIS has brought about a complete transformation in the technological dynamic of Central India, and that’s not to mention the strong competition it now gives to the technical festivals of other such institutes of high calibre, thus living up to its motto “Revolutions start on an Axis”.

WORKSHOP 2010 – CURATING INDIAN VISUAL CULTURE

Workshop on Curating Indian Visual Culture At Vadodara 2010

Introduction:
Association of Academics, Artists and Citizens for University Autonomy (ACUA), Vadodara , initiated by India Foundation for the Arts (IFA), Bangalore and funded by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust announces a series of five workshops on the theme of Curating Indian Visual Culture: Theory and Practice. The key idea behind this initiative is to conceptualize an academic curriculum for curatorial studies. Through a series of workshops and in-house discussion with academics, curators and artists from varying disciplines, the field will be mapped, problems identified, and the potential of curatorial practice in the context of Indian visual culture will be explored. This process will involve five workshops across the country that will facilitate dialogue between academics, the interested participants, and artistic communities and will conclude with a colloquium to finally create a curriculum.

The distribution of these workshops across the country also aims at enabling a curriculum that specifically deals with particular regions and their specific local concerns and issues. Smaller towns and relatively ‘side-lined’ regions will be the focus areas for the reason that the big metro-centric approaches to the cultural practices of India of the last many decades have not been able to engage with many pertinent questions.
