Fellowship Course in Diabetology – Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research – Pondicherry

About JIPMER: JIPMER was founded in 1823 by French Government, taken over by Government of India (GOI) in 1956 and upgraded to a Postgraduate Institution in 1964.  An Act of Parliament in 2008 declared Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) as an Institution of National importance and defined its objectives and functions. By virtue of this Act No.19 of 2008, section 24, “Notwithstanding anything contained in the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 the Dentist Act, 1948, the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947, the Medical Degrees and Diplomas, Dental Degrees and Nursing Degrees granted by the Institute under this Act shall be recognized medical qualifications for the purposes of the Acts aforesaid and shall be deemed to be included in the Schedules to the respective Acts”. This entitles the holders to the same privileges as those attached to the equivalent awards from the recognized Universities of India.

Objective: As a postgraduate institution with superspecialty courses the facilities and content of the   courses are in line with a strong science base. It provides opportunities for training teachers for medical colleges in the country, enhancing the human resources manpower in higher education. Educational facilities with patient care, in an atmosphere of research and enquiry are best suited to the National needs. The Ultimate goal is to provide under one roof medical education, training of personnel in all the important branches of health activity and to attain self-sufficiency in postgraduate medical education.

Duration: 3 Years

Eligibility: Candidate must be a Resident Indian National.
Upper age limit of 35 years as on 1.1.2009.
Candidate must possess a degree in M.D. from a University or DNB recognized as equivalent thereto by the MCI, in the respective discipline.

Admission Procedure: The application form and the form for hall ticket for the afore mentioned courses can be downloaded from JIPMER Website: www.jipmer.edu.in Filled-in application and hall ticket forms with due signature, finger print and photograph, enclosing a M.I.C.R. Bank Draft for Rs.1000/- (One Thousand only) drawn in favour of “Accounts Officer, JIPMER” payable at Pondicherry, (UT) shall be posted to Professor (Academic), JIPMER, Puducherry-605 006. The last date for receipt of the completed application with the hall ticket form filled-in by the candidate is 12.9.2009 (Saturday) — 5.00 pm. Application forms incomplete in any respect are liable to be rejected and will not be processed for issue of hall ticket.

Selection Procedure: Selection for D.M. Courses are made through a 2-Stage performance evaluation.Written Test with question paper consisting of 100 multiple choice questions (MCQ). Each correct answer will be awarded 4 marks. For each wrong answer one mark will be deducted. If more than one answer is marked , it will be treated as wrong answer and given negative marks. Out of the candidates who secure 50% of marks or above in the Written test (Stage I), Candidates 5 times the number of seats advertised will be called for interview assessment by the Selection Committee, duly constituted for the purpose, on the next working day.
