The Post Graduate Program is spread over two years, each year consisting of three terms. In between the first and second years, the participant spends eight weeks on a summer project in a business organisation. The academic year begins in June/July and ends in March/April of the following year.
Another unique feature of the PGP at IIM Indore is a compulsory course called Society, Business and Management which exposes the participants to the ethical dilemmas and social responsibilities of business through classroom sessions and develops their social sensitivity through a one-week attachment with an NGO or the CSR wing of a business organization.

The Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management (EPGP) is an intensive one-year residential program exemplifying the academic rigor and progressive thinking at IIM Indore. The exposure to new perspectives, contemporary theories and approaches in management lends focus to leading in turbulent times. In addition to a comprehensive functional core module, the electives provide opportunities to specialize in Strategy, Leadership, and International Business.
The EPGP is structured to prepare executives for transformational leadership positions. During the intense one-year programme, they will work towards developing a deeper understanding of various facets of management and hone their managerial skills. The programme is spread over six terms. The first three terms (with a number of core courses) focus on laying the foundation for the specialization through a bundle of electives offered in the other terms. The Institute admits Ph.D. students under the following categories:
- Regular: A student in this category works full-time for his/her Ph.D. degree. He/She receives assistantship from the Institute or fellowship from CSIR/UGC or any other recognized funding agency, such as NBHM, DBT, etc. Upper age limit: 28 years (as on 1st November 2009). The applicants belonging to SC/ST/OBC will be allowed relaxation in the age limit as per Govt. of India rules.
- Sponsered (Full-Time): A student in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, government organization or industry for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. Sponsorship letter (Form-I) must be attached with the application.
- Self Financed: A student in this category works full-time or part-time towards the Ph.D. Programme. He/She must have at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. He/She must have at qualified in NET (LS) or GATE in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student.
- Project Staff: This category refers to a student who is working on a sponsored project in the Institute and is admitted to the Ph.D. Programme to work on a full-time or part-time basis. The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year. If the project gets completed before the student completes his/her Ph.D. Programme, his/her category will be converted to that of SELF-FINANCED unless he/she is granted an assistantship/fellowship from the Institute or any other agency. No Objection Certificate (Form-II) must be attached with the application.
- Part-Time: A student in this category is a professionally employed person (including the staff of IIT Patna), who pursues the Ph.D. Programme while continuing the duties of his/her service. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form-III) must be enclosed at the time of application. He/She must have at qualified in NET (including LS) or GATE in the respective field.
- External:This category refers to a student employed in an R&D organization/academic institution/industry having adequate research facilities. The research work leading to the Ph.D. degree may be carried out largely in the parent organization of the candidate under a Local Supervisor from the organization but with the overall guidance provided by a faculty member (Institute Supervisor) of the Department/Centre in which he/she is registered. He/She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. A certificate from the Head of the sponsoring Institution/Organisation in which he/she is employed (Form-IV) must be enclosed at the time of application.
